Cypress, Sunsets, and Reflections

As above, so below.

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
― Mark Twain

Towering above but lurking below. The reflection of this tallest tree just dominates the scene obviously in the sky but it manages to take over in the water as well. Well played sir.

Rows of dedicated soldiers standing silently.

“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”
― Steve Jobs

The very faint rainbow-esque skyline, which actually the sunset was behind me, sets off the solemn rows of cypress trees standing in the water. The reflections just make the rows of trees seem more plentiful.

Like a pathway into another world.

“Stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temples stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each others shadow.”

Kahlil Gibran

Remove the color and the same exact picture becomes ominous. Like the old sci-fi or viking movies where you expect Charon to come carry you across the river Styx. To bring you to “Come Sail Away” in a “Boat on a River” letting “The Grand Illusion” slip away like “The Best of Times”. When all in all “Babe” your were just “Fooling Yourself” you’re no “Miss America” you’re no “Renegade” your just a “Lady” pleading “Don’t Let it End”

Sorry got carried away there. I’m curious how many of you will get the reference. Domo Arigato, “Mr. Roboto”

“once you have tasted the taste of sky, you will forever look up”
— Leonardo da Vinci

So yes I have been on a sunset kick, how can you not be? Photographer or not, artist or not, even naturalist or not. You have to stop and enjoy the colors of the sky at sunrise or sunset. Just think about it no two will ever be exactly alike. We are given an new start every day and hope for tomorrow every evening. Some may be dark some may be colorful but if you stop and just relax for a second and enjoy it you have been given a gift and it will be given to you day after day.
